Last night, we turned on our electric fire place, dimmed the lights and settled into a "stay-at-home-and-watch-a-little-TV" mode. On the program we were watching, a couple of people were eating what looked to be one of the most delicious and juiciest hamburgers ever created. Hunger swept over us like the ocean on a hot day on the beach. We knew what had to be done. We headed for the kitchen, turned the lights up and started cooking.
We thoroughly enjoyed creating and eating our juicy hamburgers while watching Boston Legal on ABC. And to that, all I can say is, "Denny Crane"!
The Denny Crane Hamburger
1/2 pound extra lean ground beef
1/4 cup shredded Mozzarella, Monterey Jack or Colby Jack Cheese
2 tablespoons very finely chopped onion
Salt and pepper seasoning blend
2 teaspoons Canola oil
2 slices Cheddar or American cheese
2 hamburger buns, cut side very lightly toasted, or 4 bread slices
Mayonnaise, Miracle Whip, Mustard or Durkee's
Lettuce, tomatoes and onions
Pickles and chips, optional
1. Combine beef, cheese, onion, salt and pepper in a bowl and mix well. Form into two patties. Heat oil in skillet over medium to medium-high heat, add patties and cook until done, turning once. Place cheese slice on top and cook just until cheese melts.
2. Slather spread of choice onto bun or bread. Layer lettuce, tomatoes and onions on bun bottom, add hamburger patty and top with bun top or bread.
3. Serve with pickles and chips, if desired.
